Shery Wilkes

Shery Jean Caves Wilkes, 64, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026,

surrounded by the love of her family.

Shery was born on January 7, 1962, in Bremerhaven, Germany, to Clint Harvey

Caves and Sondra Lee Roe Caves. From the beginning, Shery lived a life marked by a

deep love for family, a heart for caring for others, and a zest for making the most of every

moment.

On October 18, 1985, in Odessa, Texas, Shery married Mike Wilkes and became

the love of his life. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and caring for

others. Over the years, they made their home in Odessa, Texas; Williston, North Dakota;

Rifle, Colorado; and several other Texas communities before eventually settling in

Snyder, Texas.

Known simply as "Nana" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Shery

treasured every moment she spent with her family. Her greatest joy was being surrounded

by the people she loved. She had a gift for making the people around her feel cared for

and loved, and her family was truly the center of her world.

Shery graduated from Howard College in Big Spring, Texas, where she began her

nursing education as an LVN before continuing her education to become a Registered

Nurse. She devoted her career to caring for others, first on the medical-surgical floor at

Cogdell Hospital and later in the Emergency Department for many years. She was

respected by her coworkers, admired by her patients, and remembered for the compassion

and skill she brought to every life she touched. Her caring spirit did not end when she left

the hospital. Caring for others was simply who Shery was. She naturally put the needs of

others before her own and found fulfillment in helping family, friends, neighbors, and

anyone who needed a caring hand.

Shery had an enthusiasm for life and loved making memories with her family. She

especially loved being on the water. Some of her happiest days were spent water skiing,

fishing, and enjoying the lake. As a child, she treasured the time she spent at the lake with

her parents and brother, and later, she created those same cherished memories with her

own family. During the years they lived together in North Dakato, she and Mike enjoyed

many fishing trips together, sharing the kind of simple moments that became some of

life's sweetest memories.

She also loved amusement parks. Her children and grandchildren always wanted

Nana to ride with them because she never hesitated to climb onto the biggest rides. She

laughed easily, embraced adventure, and made every outing more fun simply by being

there. She had a joyful spirit and a way of turning ordinary moments into memories that

her family will carry with them forever.

Shery was talented in so many ways. She loved sewing, crocheting,

cross-stitching, gardening, and canning the vegetables she grew. Shery was also an avid

dog lover and had a special place in her heart for the dogs she shared her life with. She

had an amazing eye for transforming any house into a home-a talent that often involved

inciting terror in her husband and daughters as she climbed and scampered across the

sketchiest of surfaces and heights. Those moments, like so many others, were simply part

of what made Shery who she was. She was an exceptional cook whose meals brought

family together around the table. She found joy in creating things with her hands and,

even more so, in sharing what she created with the people she loved.

Her Christian faith was the foundation of her life. She found comfort and strength

in reading Scripture, and her quiet faith guided the way she loved and cared for others.

Her faith could be seen not only in what she believed, but in the way she lived-with

compassion, generosity, and a willingness to care for those around her.

Above all else, Shery loved her family. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a

proud Nana, and a cherished friend. Her kindness, gentle heart, joyful spirit, and

unwavering love touched countless lives. She gave so much of herself to the people she

loved, and the memories she created with them will continue to live on long after her

passing. Her love will be carried forward in the lives of her children, grandchildren,

great-grandchildren, family, and friends who were blessed to know her. Shery will be

deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of those who knew

and loved her.

Shery was preceded in death by her father, Clint Harvey Caves; her brother, David

Caves; her mother- and father-in-law, Carrol and Amanda Wilkes; and her beloved Oscar

and Alfie.

She is survived by her devoted husband of more than 40 years, Mike Wilkes; her

mother, Sondra Lee Roe Caves; her daughters, Rikki Leann Beck and husband Dennis,

and Brook Wilkins and husband Bryce; her brothers-in-law, Richard Wilkes and David

Wilkes and wife Debbie; her grandchildren, Jordyn Stroh, Sydney Mesa, Allie Beck,

Ethan Wilkins, and Emma Wilkins; her great-grandsons, Riley, Luke, and Cooper Stroh;

her fur babies Ernie and Itsy Wilkes; along with many other family members and dear

friends who will miss her deeply.

The family is deeply grateful to Anchor of Love Hospice, with a special thank you

to Donna and Dayz for the love, compassion, and care they provided to Shery and her

family during this time.
