Melvin Dale Byrd

January 31, 1945 — August 15, 2022

How do you put into words one life that touched so many? Beloved husband, Daddy, Papa, community leader, coach, teacher, and friend to many, Dale Byrd, passed away peacefully in Lubbock, Texas on August 15, 2022 from injuries suffered in a recent automobile accident. He is survived by his “better half,” Elaine Byrd of 52 years, his daughter, Shanna Byrd Smith, and husband, Shawn Smith, of San Angelo, Texas, his son, Ryan Byrd, of Snyder, Texas along with his three “pride and joy” grandchildren, Ethan and Lela Smith of San Angelo, Texas, and Rebecca Byrd of Snyder, Texas and his brother, Leon Byrd and wife Nel of Aubrey, TX.

Dale Byrd was a life-long educator for 53 years. At the beginning of his career, he was a science teacher and coach for his Alma Mater in Westbrook, Texas for 8 years. He was a science teacher and coach, technology teacher, technology director, technology specialist, and Apple Certified Mac Technician for Snyder ISD for 45 years.

Dale loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting. He liked a good fish story and told a few of his own. He enjoyed watching sports including the Snyder Tigers, Dallas Cowboys, and Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Dale never met a stranger. When we would go to a store, we’d ask, "Who was that?" He usually was talking to a new friend he'd just met right then and there. His love, compassion, stories, and advice will be greatly missed.

A casual come as you are reunion of family and friends is planned for Saturday, August 20, 2022 from 2:00pm- 4:00pm at Colonial Hill Baptist Church Life Center in Snyder, Texas.

The family request Memorials be made to your favorite charities.
