Melvin Robert Allen, age 79, passed away unexpectedly Sunday evening, February 8, 2026, at his home in Carlsbad, NM, due to heart failure. He was born on November 17 th,1946, in Portales, NM, Roosevelt County, a son of the late Will Francis Allen and Olive Mae (Ollie Mae) Perry Allen.
Funeral service will be held graveside at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, February 15 th, 2026, at Clairemont Cemetery in Clairemont, TX, with Kenny Miller of Miller Family Funeral Home officiating.
Melvin, or Mel, as he was affectionately known to some, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on earth was one marked by love, compassion, and an unwavering faith in God. His passing has left an emptiness in the hearts of his family and friends. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life suddenly ended, but for the way it was lived.
Melvin was preceded in death by two sons, Marty Allen, and Cory Allen; three brothers, Charles Allen, Earl Allen, Will Allen Jr.; six sisters, Faye Carrol, Francis Tivis, Wilma Yarbro, Shirley Allen, Norma Gray, and Alice Allen.
Melvin is survived by two daughters, Melissa Allen (Josh) of Ruidoso, NM, and Starlett Detrick (Gary) of Carlsbad, NM; four granddaughters, Catherine Allen (Hatch), Tahnee Ramsey, Bryce Ramsey, and Kierston Allen; two grandsons, Brent Allen, and Keenan Williams; twin brother Elvin Allen and one sister Beverly Warshaw of Snyder, TX. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Melvin served in the Marine Corp enlisting in 1968 being honorably discharged as Corporal in April 1970. Melvin has had several occupations during his lifetime, with particular enjoyment found working on horseback. He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Snyder, TX before moving to Carlsbad, NM in 2022. He enjoyed rocking chairs on the porch, visiting with his neighbors, having breakfast chats with friends and family, spending time with his children playing games of aggravation or dominoes, and celebrating life with many friends.
Melvin did everything with honesty and integrity. He had very strong values and always made time to help others. His legacy will carry on forever reminding us that we control our attitudes and to live a life like Christ modeled for us through meaningful acts of love and service.
There are no words that can express how grateful and blessed we are to his neighbors, who were there for us on the night of his passing. Also a heartfelt thank you to the Carlsbad EMT, Firefighters, and Sheriffs department for doing everything they could.
