Larry H. "Tooty" McGee, age 85, passed away in Snyder on Friday, February 27, 2026.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, March 21, at 3:00 PM at Miller Family Funeral Home. There will be an informal family gathering immediately thereafter at the Dunn Cemetery in Dunn, Texas, for the interment of the cremains.

Mr. McGee was born on September 5th, 1940, in Roscoe, Texas, to Poly P. and Lily Hamlin McGee of nearby Colorado City, where he grew up and was a 1960 graduate of Colorado High School.

He was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War era and then stationed with his late first wife Judy Griffin McGee of Snyder in Colorado Springs, Colorado, prior to his overseas service in Vietnam.

He was discharged and returned home in 1967, after what he thought was an unnecessary layover in Los Angeles while a brand new uniform was made for his return trip to Texas.

"Tooty" McGee then spent his 35-year career as a welding contractor working with his great many friends in the business all over Texas and New Mexico.

In 1979, the work eventually led him to Duchesne, Utah, where he met Tonya Rae Bird and her three young children, Melissa, Andy, and Jared. Tooty and Tonya later married in 1984.

He was a Freemason, or Mason, as he always said, and was rarely seen in the last half of his life without his ruby and gold Masonic ring that originally belonged to his father.

He is survived by his son with Judy Griffin McGee, Larry Jay McGee and his wife Norma Gutierrez McGee of Snyder; daughter Melissa Herring and Will Hutt of Alvarado, Texas; son Andy Fenus and wife Lisa of Weatherford, Texas; son Jared McGee and wife Helen of Eden, Texas. Additional family members include grandchildren: from Melissa, Kim and David Herring of Alvarado; from Andy, Sydney Fenus; from Jared, Trisha, Derek and Rebecca McGee of Eden, Texas, and Kiahlah McGee of Grapevine, Texas: great-grandchildren Aaliyah Patterson, Zayvion Copeland, Jared Lee McGee, Josie McGee and Abraham McGee.

He was preceded in death by his former wife Judy Griffin McGee of Snyder; his wife Tonya Rae Bird McGee; his parents Poly and Lily McGee of Colorado City; his sister Ialee McGee Turner of Midland, Texas; his brother Lane Reid McGee of Dublin, Texas; his nephew and Andy's son Devin Fenus of Corsicana, Texas.
