Susie, the only child of James Melvin and Mildred (Mann) Boyd, was born prematurely on July 24th, 1952 in Colorado City, Texas. She started life as a fighter, overcoming her early arrival and later fighting back from polio. Susie and her mom chose Colorado City as home, where she graduated Colorado City High School in 1970. After graduation, Susie attended Howard College in Big Spring, Texas. followed by Beauty School in Baytown, Texas. Upon completing her Beauty School training Susie moved to Lubbock and began a rewarding 29 year career with J.C. Penney Beauty Salon. Susie's customers loved her and Susie cultivated many long term friendships with "her ladies". These friendships extended well past her retirement from J.C. Penney, in 2003. Susie met her husband David Huffington through one of "her ladies" (David's Mom) at J.C. Penney Beauty Salon. Susie and David were married on August 27, 1977 in the First Methodist Church, in Colorado City.
Susie had many outside interest. She loved to cook and delighted in making great meals and snacks for friends and family. Nothing made her happier than watching the food she provided be eaten and appreciated. Susie also loved to sew and crochet. She was constantly learning how to make new items to share with others to use and enjoy. She again used these talents to form special bonds and friendships.
