Joe Thamez Jr., of Snyder, Texas, passed away on December 29, 2025, at the age of 63.
Joe was born on July 9, 1962, in Hamlin, Texas. He was known by many names "Big J" to his beloved grandchildren, and "Joey" to friends and family who knew him best. No matter what you called him, he was deeply loved.
Joe had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed motorcycles, hunting, and fishing. Cycling was especially close to his heart, and he proudly participated in several charity rides, including Hotter 'n Hell Hundred, MS 150, Tour de Cure, Steam-N-Wheels, and many others, riding not only for enjoyment but to support causes that mattered to him. He also took great pride in his trucks. Joe cherished his family and friends and the time he spent with them.
He is survived by his children:
Joseph M. Thamez III and spouse Patty Thamez, Justin Thamez and spouse Erika Thamez, Valarie Hernandez and spouse Ray Hernandez, and Christopher Thamez and spouse Clarissa Thamez. His parents, Teresa Galindo, Joseph M. Thamez Sr. and his wife Paula Thamez. His siblings: Doug Thamez and spouse Teresa Thamez, Nancy Steelman and spouse Michael Steelman, and Lisa Thamez and Ragnar Opiniano, as well as many nieces and nephews.
His grandchildren Noah Thamez, Isaiah Thamez, Owen Thamez, Jonas Thamez, Aiden Hernandez, Elaina Hernandez, Ezra Hernandez, Brayden McWilliams, Cambrie Thamez, Weston Thamez, Everly Thamez, and Wyatt Ethan, each of whom knew him lovingly as Big J.
Joe was preceded in death by his brother Robert Thamez, sister Sandra Huddleston, and stepfather Al Galindo.
A celebration of Joe's life will be held with family and friends at a later date.
Joe will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his love of family, his generous spirit, and the unforgettable memories he leaves behind.
