Jose Angel Orona

Jose Angel Orona, born on April 1, 1935, affectionately known to many as "Canque," passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, hard work, and cherished family memories.

Joe was a proud owner and operator of Orona Dirt Work and a well-known, retired heavy equipment operator. On April 30, 1955, he married the love of his life, Consuelo Campos. Together, they built a beautiful life centered around family and community.

To know Joe was to share a smile, as he always made people laugh. Friends fondly remember him as someone who was always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a funny gesture to brighten anyone's day. He was stubborn at times, but he possessed a deeply soft heart when it came to his children and grandchildren, holding an immense love for each and every one of them.

Outside of his professional life, Joe found simple joys in the world around him. He loved spending quality time with his family, visiting his friends, and relaxing outside with a Miller Lite while listening to his police scanner. He had a great appreciation for the simple things-he loved a good fire, good music, keeping a good dirt pile around for the kids to play in, and ensuring there was always watermelon or popsicles waiting in the fridge.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Consuelo Orona. He leaves behind his devoted children: sons David Orona (and Mary Jane) of Snyder, TX; Sabino Orona (and Coleen) of Bandera, TX; Robert Orona (and Diana) of Roswell, NM; Tony Orona (and Kay) of Colorado City, TX; Ruben Orona (and Hortencia) of New Braunfels, TX; and Arturo (Head) Orona of Canyon Lake, TX; as well as daughters Josie Orona of Colorado City, TX; and Rita Orona Rushing (and Bill) of Humble, TX. He is also survived by his sister, Victoria Ornelas of Abilene, TX, and his brother, Higinio Orona of New Braunfels, TX. His legacy continues through his 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Josefa Orona; his son, Pedro Orona (Pete); his sisters, Beatriz Sanchez, Reyes Rangel, and Apolonia Campos; and his brothers, Concepcion Orona and Eduardo Orona.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and employees at Sterling Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Sweetwater, Texas, for their compassionate care and dedication during his time with them.

Service Details:

• Viewing & Visitation: Tuesday, July 28, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Miller Family Funeral Home (200 37th St, Snyder, TX 79549).

• Rosary Service: Tuesday, July 28, 2026, beginning at 7:00 PM during the visitation at Miller Family Funeral Home.

• Funeral Mass: Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Colorado City, TX., Burial will follow at Mitchell County Cemetery.

Pallbearers:
Michael Orona, Marcus Orona, Lucas Orona, Colton Forbes, Bear Rushing, and Christian (Blue) Lopez.
