John Zalman, Jr.

John Zalman, Jr. passed away on January 20, 2016 at the age of 92.

He was born Ernest Newton Finley on November 27, 1923 to Roy Finley and Birdie Lee Glasco Finley in Blackwell, Texas. Honoring the love and respect he had for his stepfather, John Zalman, Sr., on November 7, 1945, he legally changed his name to John Zalman, Jr.

He enlisted in the United States Navy on October 22, 1941 and proudly served his country for four years during WWII. John's time in the USN was spent on the USS Ramsay and USS Terror. He took great pride in serving his country and considered it a great honor.

John married the love of his life, Evelyn Roemisch, on January 8, 1946 at St. John's Catholic Church in Hermleigh. They were married 65 years when Evelyn passed away in 2011. John and Evelyn farmed in the Scurry County area until 2010. He was longtime member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Snyder. John is survived by his daughter, Barbara Zalman Bulen and her husband, Jim of Lubbock; and a son, John Zalmon, III of Hermleigh; one sister Irene of Houston, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 23rd at St. Elizabeths Catholic Church with Deacon Bane officiating. Interment will follow at the Hermleigh Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Miller Family Funeral Home.

Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 22 at Miller Family Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to St. Elizabeths Catholic Church and Lubbock Meals on Wheels.
