John Truss Farquhar

February 12, 1932 — March 27, 2021

During a beautiful sunrise on March 27, 2021, John Truss Farquhar entered the pearly gates of Heaven. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Miller Family Funeral Home Chapel at 200 E 37th Street in Snyder, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller Family Funeral Home. He was born to Frank and Nancy Farquhar on February 12, 1932 in Fluvanna, Texas. He graduated early from Fluvanna High School and after receiving notice of being drafted into the Army he went immediately and enlisted into the Marines instead. He took a train to basic training in San Diego and upon his graduation he was sent into the front lines of the Korean War. He served two years in the Marine Corp and parted ways with Honorable Discharge. He took a train back to Texas and ultimately settled in Snyder. He met and later married the love of his life, Juanita Cranfill, on February 19, 1954. For 61 years, he worked for E.L. Farmer and Company where he moved rigs and many other large pieces of equipment from coast to coast. Those that worked with him and for him had a deep respect for his work ethic and have even said he could give direction with just different ways he would whistle. When he retired, he was Vice President. He was also a member of the Shriners, a 32nd Degree Mason and a lifetime member of the VFW. He took pride in his yard work and enjoyed gardening. He cheered on the Dallas Cowboys and loved to watch PBR. He loved cooking, especially barbecuing, and found immense joy in watching others eat what he made. Of all the titles he had in his life, his most proud were husband, Dad, Papa, Papa Grey and Uncle Tut. He had a great love for his family and extended family and really adored when they could all congregate together. Truss is survived by his three children: Trussha Owen and husband Tim of Fluvanna, Barry Farquhar and Kelly Farquhar of Snyder; four grandchildren: Whitney Nixon and husband Eric of Fluvanna, Adam Owen and wife Somer of Snyder, Cade Owen and wife Lindie of Snyder and Olivia Burns of Snyder; eleven great-grandchildren: Avery, Riley, Brently, Cameron, Trusslynn, Trinity, Owen, Everly, Cash, Auburn and Scotland. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Farquhar and his siblings: James Thomas Farquhar, William Gregory Farquhar, Helen Farquhar, Lila LaVerne Farquhar, Joye Browning and Robert Vociel Farquhar. In Lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorials be made to Scurry County Senior Citizen Center and/or Meals on Wheels, 2605 Ave. M #SC, Snyder, Texas 79549, (325) 573-4035.
