Joe Whit Simpson was welcomed into this world by Fred and Dorothy Simpson on September 10, 1950, in Snyder, TX. Jimmy Simpson was also present, but it is unknown how welcoming he was. Joe grew up in Snyder, TX and graduated from Snyder High School in 1968. During this time, their baby brother Jacky was born-and to hear it told by Joe “he was always the favorite” but MeeMaw said all three were typical boys/siblings-always fighting and in trouble as children. This did not change when they moved into adulthood, she was never surprised by any of their antics.
Joe continued his education by attending North Texas State and San Angelo State, focusing on Law Enforcement. He went on to serve as a police officer and deputy sheriff in several counties and Chief of Police in Gorman, TX. As he aged, he slowed down and chose to help children with Texas Youth Commission.
Along the way he was supported by the love of his life Beverly Lively who became Beverly Simpson on 5/22/88. The other love of his life was his horses—early in life he lost Contessa who he never forgot, and he leaves behind Legacy who has been his shoulder to cry on and support for at least the last decade. Joe often commented she was a typical woman ready to listen when she was ready mainly when she was hungry, and only had love for one human and that was Joe!! She showed that to anyone who visited by turning her back to others; even when food was offered. Joe finished his adventurous career in Afghanistan by running bomb dogs several years to protect the military bases. He then returned home to care for his wife Beverly until her death 6/30/16.
Legacy and two other horses have managed to keep Joe busy in Deleon, TX since her passing along with many, many dear friends whom he considered family. He also enjoyed many
Facebook relationships where he encouraged others and always had a nice word to share.
Joe passed peacefully in the home of his brother Jacky on 10/22/24 after a sudden illness. Joe is also preceded in death by his father Fred Simpson 6/19/98; his mother Dorothy Simpson 12/20/02; and his older brother Jimmy Simpson 11/21/03.
He leaves behind so many friends and family including his baby brother Jacky Simpson and his wife Vickie. His two nephews Cade Simpson and wife Lindsey Simpson; and Kodee Simpson. And two great nephews Cooper and Camden Simpson.
