James (Jimmy) Carroll Moody, 85, departed this earth to be with his Lord and Savior on February 18, 2024.
Jimmy was born to Marcil and Herman Moody on January 8, 1939, in Colorado City. He attended Westbrook ISD, where he was involved in FFA during his high school years.
After graduating high school, Jimmy went to work for Southwestern Bell telephone company, where he worked for several years before starting the journey of owning and managing several businesses throughout the years. His love of horses, rodeoing, ranching, and the cowboy lifestyle led to cattle ranching in Mitchell and Scurry Counties. Along with ranching, he owned and operated a feed store, locker plant, and construction company in Colorado City. He also worked in the oilfield and managed a landfill in New Mexico for a time.
Jimmy married Janette Cannon on December 31, 1982. Together, they enjoyed raising horses and showing Australian Shepherds. Jimmy had an amazing talent for designing and remodeling houses, while Janette added her talents of design and decorating. They lived in New Mexico for several years, but eventually made their home in Westbrook. He kept busy doing contract pumping and swapping stories with Buck Parker at Buck’s Cafe.
Along the way, he was blessed with grandchildren who affectionately called him Gramps. He and Mamaw (Janette) loved and supported their family and were always there to help when any of the kids called on them. Gramps enjoyed having everyone together and loved telling stories of his life experiences. He truly was larger than life and one of a kind.
Through the years, Jimmy and Janette attended several churches where he developed lifelong friendships with those who made an impact on his life. He was so thankful for those friendships. He was a member of Westbrook First Baptist Church.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Marcil and Herman Moody, and a son, Edward Cannon. He is survived by his wife, Janette; sons Bobby Moody and wife Dana, Alan Moody and wife Leslie, Clayton Cannon and wife Jeran, Spencer Cannon and wife Melanie, all of Mitchell County; grandchildren Kristin Browne and husband Paul, Kaci Rainbolt and husband Kyle, Sykeshia Wiita and husband Dan, Drake Thurman and wife Sara, Brittany Cannon and Josh Fernandez, Brooke Cannon, Jade Williams and husband Nick, Ledger and Jentry Cannon, Colton Cannon, and Alyssa Cannon. He was blessed with 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter, as well as numerous brothers- and sisters-in law, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at 2 pm in the Westbrook Cemetery, under the direction of Miller Family Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, if you would like to donate in his honor, donations can be made to the Westbrook First Baptist Youth.
