Glenda Pauline Tate passed away October 24, 2024 at age 87 in Austin, Texas. Pauline was born
February 26, 1937, in Scurry County, the youngest and only daughter of parents, J. A. and Pinkie Tate. After graduating Snyder High School in 1956, Pauline’s life-long adventures began. She moved away from farm life and entered nursing school in San Angelo, receiving her nursing license in 1959. She then moved to Chicago to work at the county hospital without any family or knowing anyone in Chicago. The cold did not suit her, so she moved to California and worked in hospitals for a number of years. Finally, in 1968, Pauline took the bold step of moving to Honolulu, Hawaii to work as a nurse. There, she found her true home, fully adopting a Hawaii lifestyle and attitude. She worked at Kapo’olani Medical Center for over 30 years, retiring in 2002.
Pauline’s entire life was devoted to caring for others. She worked as nurse in hospitals caring for the sick, injured, and ailing for over 40 years. In 2010, she moved back to Texas to help care for her ailing nephew, Kenny.
Pauline was fiercely independent, paid her own way in life, and lived her life as she wanted, not what others expected, at a time when women were not expected to be independent. She became in many ways a role model for other women to do what they wanted; not what society expected.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, J. A. and Pinkie Tate, her brothers, James, Guin, John, and Wayne Tate, and her longtime companion, Ernest Kanekoa. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and many, many friends, on the mainland and Hawaii.
Graveside services will be held at Snyder Cemetery on November 2, 2024, at 10:00 am with arrangements under the care of Miller Family Funeral Home.
