Gary Lee Baughman

September 12, 1951 — April 19, 2026

Gary Lee Baughman, 74, passed away from this earthly world peacefully in his sleep at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas on April 19, 2026. He was born on September 12, 1951, to Harry (Buck) Baughman and Alice Mae (Smith) Baughman. Gary dedicated himself to being a loving son, brother, father, and above all else, a husband. He always puts others' needs before his own.

Gary is survived by the love of his life, Frances Baughman (Como) of Snyder Texas; his brother, Michael Baughman (Rhonda) of Odessa Texas; his sister, Linda Black (Tom) of Kimberling City, Missouri. A son, Gary "Pete" (Michelle) Baughman of Odessa Texas. A daughter, Stacey Locklear (Calvin Hunter) of Snyder Texas and a special friend, Pastor Paz Hernandez of Snyder Texas. Gary's legacy will be carried on through his 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents Harry "Buck" and Alice Baughman, two beloved daughters, Barbara Glover (Baughman) and Catharine Moreno (Baughman), a grandson, Austen Ryan Cummings, a beloved granddaughter, Kandyce Maurine Hughes, and beloved great granddaughter Claire Elaina Locklear.

Gary will best be remembered for his generosity of caring for others. He especially loved helping those who were less fortunate or just needed a helping hand. He always took the time to listen as he had a way of making you feel like you were his only priority. Time didn't matter to him. One of his favorite things to say was "just take a walk and think about it; think about how the decision will affect you and your future."

One of Gary's favorite things to do was racing. He always felt the "need for speed," whether behind the steering wheel of his own race car or mentoring others from the sidelines. He never missed a moment to praise others for their accomplishments, whether on the racetrack or just in this thing called "Life".

Gary will be sadly missed by many friends and family. A private memorial with family will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made in honor of him to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association (ADA).

Though he is gone, his spirit will live on in each of our hearts. We will cherish the memories we have of him and keep him alive in our stories and in our love for him.
