April 2, 1958 — February 9, 2022

Doug Bisnette, 63, took his last trip across the plains of west Texas and left this earth for the Great Hunting Grounds on February 9, 2022.

Visitation will be held, Monday, February 14, 2022 from 6-7 pm at the Miller Family Chapel, 423 East 17th street in Colorado City, TX. A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller Family Funeral Home.

Douglas was born April 2,1958 in Plainview, KS. to Elijah and Martha (Hummel) Bisnette. The family moved to Colorado City when his father was employed with TXU and his mother became active in the catholic church where Doug and his brothers were also alter boys. He was involved with Golden Gloves Boxing and Boys Scouts.

His childhood years were spent roaming all over Mitchell county with his brothers and friends, searching for the best fishing and camping spots. It wasn't uncommon for the Bisnette boys to put their mom on edge when they would set out on a few days journey to Lake Champion or the Thompson Ranch. Dale would eventually be sent out to bring them back home.

Doug graduated high school in 1976 and made his home in Colorado City. Early on he made a living roughnecking before getting into the fur business. He married Janie HInes on September 12, 1981.They welcomed their first daughter, Kirby, in 1984 and second daughter Kourtney, in 1988. He switched careers in the early '90's and began working as a millrite for TXU. He later worked for Fleur Daniels, where he traveled all over the United States and the Virgin Islands.

This lifestyle appealed to his restless soul, Doug was a roamer, a wonderer and always looking for adventure, but nothing could keep him away from west Texas.

Doug enjoyed the outdoors. He took his girls on countless arrowhead hunts, nature walks and hunting and fishing trips, where he taught them every aspect of the trip, even cleaning their own harvest. He had a sixth sense about the rocks. He would follow his feelings and go searching. He enjoyed spending time with his family.

Doug was authentic at all times and everyone knew where they stood with him. A great friend to many. He loved it all, good song, a good story, a good laugh and a good drink.
