Dorothy was born on February 6, 1938, in Linden, Texas, to Ira Lanis Hickman and Henrietta Hickman Smith. She dedicated her life to caring for and raising her children, Danny and Debbie, and her granddaughter Nicole—with whom she shared a special bond with, as well as her great-grandchildren and one great-great Granddaughter. Dorothy wasn’t just a grandmother—she was a mother in every way that mattered. Her life was marked by faith, resilience, and compassion. She cared for others, it showed as she was an LVN from 1968-2010 when she retired.

She lived out her faith with grace, walked in love, gave without hesitation, and uplifted everyone around her. Her life was a reflection of the Lord’s goodness and mercy.

“Her children arise and call her blessed.” — Proverbs 31:28

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” — Psalm 23:6

Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Aaron Verge Jewell; her great-granddaughter, Kaydence Grace Withroder; and her siblings, Roy Hickman, Jr., Jimmy Ray Hickman, and Joan Griffin. She is survived by her sister, Eva Anderson, and leaves behind a legacy of love in the hearts of her family:

Children: Dan Jewell, Debbie Ball

Grandchildren: Brad and wife Lori Williams; Nicole and husband Tony Withroder; Ricky and wife Haley Ball; Garrett McDonald; Nicholas Jewell; and Noah Jewell.

Great-Grandchildren: Carson Sue, Camery Sue, Ian and wife Hannah Ball; Madelyn Ball, Kinley Withroder, Paisley Williams, Bailey McDonald, Aubrey Ball, and Raider Ball.

Great-Great-Granddaughter: Mileena Jade

Dorothy is also remembered and deeply loved by extended family members, and countless church family and friends.

Her life was a gift. Her love was a covering. And her memory will forever be a light in our hearts.

“Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord.” — Matthew 25:23
