Doris was born in rural Scurry County, to Olen and Etta Dixon, on September
9, 1925. Shortly after graduating from High School in nearby Hobbs, TX, she
married Clyde Garrison, also of Scurry County. Clyde preceded Doris in
death, after 19 years of marriage. Doris was later married to Aubrey Eugene
Wilson, of Snyder, for 51 years. Doris was the owner/operator of Deluxe Dry
Cleaners in Snyder, for several years, and later worked as bookkeeper and
alteration specialist at Rachel's Dress Shop, also in Snyder.
Doris enjoyed arts and crafts, especially needlework and painting, and was a
member of the Women's Art Guild at Martha Ann Woman's Club, in Snyder.
She was also a member of the local Christian Women's Organization, and a
long-time member of First Baptist Church. Her greatest passion in life was
teaching Bible Study to groups of all ages, which she did for 70 years. Doris
enjoyed helping people, and treasured every occasion to serve to others. She
enjoyed family and social gatherings, community events, gardening, and
supporting her husband's musical performances at the Scurry County Senior
Center.
Doris was preceded in death by both parents; husbands Clyde and Aubrey;
one brother, Thomas Dixon; three sisters, Pearl Copeland, Juanita Benbenek
and Elene Reeves; and four nephews. She is survived by one sister-in-law,
Donna Wilson of Snyder; stepdaughters Othelda Clark of Snyder, and Jenelda
Brown of Tarpon Springs, FL; and four step-grandchildren. She is also
survived by nephews Daren Benbenek of San Angelo, TX and Jerry Tucker
and wife Phyllis of Colorado City, TX; niece, Suzanne Doolittle and husband
Bob of Snyder; and several great nieces, nephews and other family members.
Memorial donations can be made to Gideons International.
In addition to cherished family and friends, Doris wanted to express her
deepest love to the women of the Sojourner's (formerly Caring Friends)
Ladies' Bible Study at First Baptist Church. Thank you for sharing so many
wonderful times, and for lifting her up, when comfort was needed.
