Obituary for Marvin Memphis Morrell

Marvin Memphis Morrell went to be with Jesus surrounded by his family on March 31, 2023, at Cogdell Memorial Hospital in Snyder, Texas. He was born August 25th, 1935, in Bayard, New Mexico to Ella Victoria Floyd and Charles Sumner Morrell. He had 6 brothers and 3 sisters. Mr. Morrell was married to the love of his life, Ruth Ellen Goodman, for 56 years since July 29th, 1966. He loved hunting, going to auctions, dancing, and spending time with his family. He worked faithfully for Grimmett Brothers Inc for many years and was a jack of all trades. Mr. Morrell was a loyal attendee of the Scurry County Senior Center where he and his wife spent many a day playing and socializing with friends. Mr. Morrell was proud of his family name, specifically Zachariah Nehemiah (ZN) Morrell who planted some of the first Baptist churches in Texas, helped fund the creation of Baylor University, and wrote Flowers and Fruits from the Wilderness. He also noted that he shared a grandmother, on his mother’s side, with Johnny Cash and so came by his creative and musical nature quite naturally. Mr. Morrell never met a stranger and would give the shirt off of his back to someone in need.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by:
Brothers Jesse Ray, Rufus Allen, Howard, and Henry Lee Morrell, Sisters Nella Mae Stephens, Essie Fay Calloway, and Cubie Jo Berry, Daughter Tisha Bloom, and Grandson Nathaniel Morrell.

Brothers John (Johnny) and Melbie (Eddie) Morrell and his loving wife Ruth Ellen Morrell.
Children Donna Ruth and Greg Gafford, Douglas Earl and Suzie Morrell, David John and Diana Morrell, Donnie and Johnna Morrell, and Marvin Glen Morrell.
