Obituary for Janie Henderson

Janie Henderson , 89, of Colorado City, went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 17 , 2021. Janie was born April 20, 1932 at Root Memorial Hospital to James Marion Hamrick and Lillie Chism Hamrick. Janie graduated from Colorado High in 1949. On November 24, 1950 Janie married the love of her life Robert Henderson.

Beginning life together, Janie was a homemaker. Soon, Robert’s career moved the two of them and their two daughters to Silver. The community was unique. Everyone was like family there. When the camps closed, the Hendersons made the move back to Colorado City in 1966. Janie started working at the Rhode-Cowan Clinic and then moved to City National Bank as a secretary. The bank ladies had a strong work ethic and continued close relationships that would last a lifetime.

Once retired in 1994, Janie was determined to spend more time with family, more time at the lake fishing and teaching grandkids to ski, more backyard time making mud pies, more trips to the ski mountain, more time with “the sisters” and their families. Her craft room was busy with sewing and creating porcelain dolls. She was passionate about playing cards, getting together with friends, and supporting her favorite sports teams.

Robert and Janie eventually moved to Lake Colorado City where they welcomed everyone into their home and family. She embraced being everyone’s Mema. As the family began to grow, there was more fun to be had. Mema loved spoiling all six of her great grandchildren.

Janie served along side her church family at the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed helping prepare meals, Sunday School parties, and gathering in fellowship.

Janie is survived by her daughter Kathy Bassham of Euless, by her grandchildren Tia Matlock and husband Homer of Westbrook and their children Zoe and Parker Matlock, Whitney Norby and husband Michael of Needham Massachusetts and their children Alex and Sean Norby, and by Zack Mowery and wife Natalie of Lubbock and their children Brody and Sadie Mowery. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Henderson, by her daughter Brenda Mowery, by brothers Truett Hamrick and Quinton Hamrick , by sisters Roeburta Henderson, Maxine Nelson, and Barbara Strain.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday November 27th at 11am at First Baptist Church in Colorado City with Jerry Shields officiating. A visitation will be in the Auditorium following the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller Family Funeral Home.
