Obituary for Katlynn Gutierrez

After an 11 yr battle with rare brain tumor Katlynn Leigh Gutierrez passed away at the age of 20 on Monday June 17, 2019 in her Eunice home surrounded by her family.

There will be a viewing in Snyder TX on Thursday, June 20, 2019 from 6-8 pm at Miller Family Funeral Home.
A services will be held Friday, June 21. 2019 at 10:00 at the Church of Latter Day Saints in Hobbs, NM. A viewing will be held from 8-10 am prior to the service.
An additional visitation will be Friday, June 21, 2019 form 6-8 pm at Miller Family Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller Family Funeral Home.

Katie was born in June 22, 1998 in Snyder TX to Kevin and Amy Gutierrez both 1992 Snyder High School graduates.Katie attended primary school in Snyder, Farmington, Lovington and Eunice. She attended Snyder Jr High and her freshman year in Snyder and graduated from Eunice High school in June 2017. She was the Eunice High school varsity mascot 2016-2017.
She loved attending school and serving as her Sr class Student Council Secretary as well Secretary of the City of Eunice Student Advisory Council. She loved playing sports especially softball.
At the age of 11 in 2009 Katie was struck in the head with a ball during a softball game. At that time they discovered a rare brain tumor in the center of the brain. Craniopharyngioma, a benign brain tumor. Katie endured 11 brain surgeries to remove the fast growing tumor. After her 11th brain surgery Katie suffered a massive midbrain stroke. She spent the next 11 months in the hospital battling for her life. In July of 2018 Katie was released from the hospital and sent home to Eunice. Her hometown welcomed her home with a parade in her honor.
Katie enjoyed her final months and days at home with her family. She had a sincere love for her family and life. She sought out to bless others always putting herself last. She was always so concerned with everyone else and rarely herself. She was LOVED by all who knew her. She will be missed.

She leaves behind her mother and father Kevin Lee and Amy Gutierrez of Eunice. Her sister Chelsea Meeker of Eunice and her brother Officer Brekan Andrew Gutierrez of Jal, NM.
Maternal grandparents David and Sally Botts and Andres and Irma Ramirez all of Snyder. Paternal Grandfather Rudy Gutierrez also of Snyder. Her maternal great grandmother Manuela "Nellie" Rios of San Angelo.

She is preceded in death by her her Grandmother Linda Kay Gutierrez and her Uncle Andrew Ramirez Jr. both of Snyder.
