Obituary for Jimmie Nan Tate

Jimmie Nan Tate, age 89, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, December 29th, 2021. Jimmie was born June 23, 1932 in Gaines County, Texas to parents, William (Ace) and Verna (Wiseman) Gill. Jimmie lived almost her entire life in Scurry County and Snyder and was a member of East Side Church of Christ. A devoted mother and wife, she was the rock of the family, who will be greatly missed. Her greatest joy in life was the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Family visitation is planned for Thursday, December 30th, 2021 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Miller Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Friday, December 31st, 2021 at 2:00 pm at East Side Church of Christ with Mr. Tom Holcomb officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Miller Family Funeral Home at Snyder Cemetery.

Jimmie was an inspiration to all that knew her. Growing up in humble beginnings and living first as a farmer's daughter and later, as a farmer's wife, and then at various jobs, all she knew was a work life. Jimmie often worked two jobs to support her family, all he while raising her family and caring for in-laws and other family. Jimmie, simply by example, instilled a work ethic carried forward by her children and others that knew her.

Jimmie also was an advocate of education. She regretted not receiving a full education when she was young and emphasized to everyone the need for an education. In later years, she was able to fulfill her desire for a formal education. At age 68, she earned her GED. At age 70, she earned her Associates degree from Western Texas College (where, at graduation, the faculty gave her a standing ovation) where she was proud to receive her degree from Midwestern State University. Although she was never one to call attention to herself, she was very proud of her accomplishments and her family is even more proud of this remarkable woman.

She is survived by all seven of her children and their spouses, Daughter, Kathie Holdren and husband, Jon of Abilene, TX, Son, Jerry Tate and wife Sandy of Tyler, TX, Son, Bill Tate and wife Linda of Kerrville, TX, Son, Rick Tate and Fiance Alicen Cosgrove of Austin, TX, Son, Randy Tate and wife Patti of Montgomery, TX, Daughter, Teresa Wolf and husband Randy of Sanford, NC and Son, David Tate and wife Lisa of Snyder, TX, Sister-in-law, Pauline Tate; fourteen Grandchildren and ten Great-Grandchildren and many Nieces and Nephews.

Jimmie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John D. Tate; her Brother, Johnny Gill and Sisters, Maxine Martin, Muriel Edwards and Beth Bennett.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to a favorite church, educational charity or family in need.
