Obituary for Leon Pemberton

Leon Pemberton, 71, passed away May 19, 2021 after a year-long battle of complications due to a stroke. His oil field friends knew him as “Big Cat,” but his family knew him as the gentle giant who never met a stranger. Leon was known for his jokes and his wildly entertaining, yet sometimes inappropriate stories, and was always the “life” of any gathering.

In High School, he worked at Bill’s drive-in, where he never failed to remind his daughter that he would have to peel HUNDREDS of pounds of potatoes daily. He met his one and only true love while working there, and then soon married- moving to West Texas so to begin a career in the oil field industry and start a family.

Leon will be fondly remembered as someone who excelled at using his television remote, joyriding, knowing his way around a food buffet, but most of all a hard worker, provider, and lover of life & his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy- who lovingly supported him in life and in their last days together, His biggest fan & daughter- Leslie, Pistol Pete, a loyal calico cat, and his brothers-Dean, Larry, Tommy, and Lewis- including their extended families of nieces & nephews (that he loved dearly), long-time oil field buddies, and last, but far from least- his closest & devoted friends Aaron, Hall, Cletus, & Danny.

There will be a “Celebration of Life” scheduled at a future date. Arrangements are under the care of Miller Family Funeral Home.
