Hershel Hinshaw

The roll was called up Yonder and sweet reunion occurred for Hershel on January 11, 2021. In Daddy’s humble fashion, he requested to be buried with his Momma’s handmade quilt and only his close loved ones in attendance.

Hershel was born in Mankins Texas May 30, 1927 to Leo Hinshaw and Helma (Shubert) Hinshaw. He grew up in Sweetwater Texas.

He entered the US Navy and was stationed on the USS New Jersey. When he returned from service he completed high school in Sweetwater and attended the School of Mortuary Science in Houston. He married Patsy Allen on November 27, 1948.

Hershel left the funeral business to open Hinshaw’s House of Flowers on College Avenue, in Snyder Texas. In 1989, they sold their business and moved to Kerrville, Texas where he worked again in the funeral business. They chose to retire in Abilene Texas near family and friends, enjoying poker games and the Dallas Cowboys. He has spent the last 8 years with added love from his Goodlife family in Snyder.

Survivors include daughter Vicki and Tommy Johnson of Snyder, son Brent Hinshaw of Denton, son Toby and Traci Hinshaw of Arlington. He answered to Pawpaw by grandchildren Bradi and Cody Williams, Tate Hinshaw, Tanner Hinshaw, Eric Johnson, Bethany Johnson, and Misty Johnson; four great grands Beckett and Avery Williams, Kooper Messick, and Caden Hinshaw. He is also survived by his niece Pam Phiffer of Midland and great niece Shay Minor of Abilene.

He is preceded in death by his wife Pat Hinshaw; his siblings Ruby Hinshaw Guess, Morris Hinshaw, Robert Hinshaw; and his granddaughter Kelsi Messick.
