Dessie Lee “Tootsie” Morris, age 87, went home to be with Jesus on February 3, 2022.
Tootsie was born to Leonard and Odessa “Dessie” Oden on August 7, 1934 in Nolan County, Texas. She grew up with ten siblings, six brothers and four sisters.
She married Carl Delbert “Pete” Morris in Mitchell County, Texas on February 5, 1949. They went on to have 9 children (one whom they lost as an infant but was still loved dearly: Jimmy Don). They spent their lifetime together in Mitchell County, Texas.
When two people love each other as much as they did their love spills over. Pete and Tootsie’s love spilled over and grew their family as follows: Sheron Scrivner has 4 children, 10 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren; Albert “Pat” Morris had 3 children, 12 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren; Bobby Morris has 3 children, 13 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren; James Morris had 4 children, 17 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren; Nita Higgins has 2 children, 7 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren; Vanessa Baker has 2 children, 6 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren; Patsy Lach has 3 children (Little Steve passed as an infant), 6 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren; and Wanda Manley has 1 child, and 3 grandchildren.
Tootsie aka MeMaw was a force to be reckoned with, but all out of fierce love for God and family. Her pies and her prayers were sought after by many. Throughout her life she held an unwavering faith in Jesus and shared her faith with everyone she came into contact with. Years were spent sowing and reaping in the fields as well as her spiritual life. Nursing was more than a vocation for her; it embodied her every action. She was a caretaker to the core.
You could often hear her singing her favorite songs ‘I’ve Never Been Disappointed in Jesus’ and ‘On the Mountain With Jesus.’ She would not want us to share any of this information without adding that you need to be baptized in Jesus’ name and be filled with the Holy Ghost. Her favorite scripture and the one she quoted often was Acts 2:38 which states, “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
Tootsie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, three of her sons, and a grandson.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 “But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.”
