Carl Lawrence Devorce, 69, of Midwest City, Oklahoma passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, July 15, 2022 surrounded by family.

No Visitation planned. Graveside services will be held at 10 A.M. Friday, July 22, 2022 at the Mitchell County Cemetery in Colorado City, Texas. Officiated by Terrance Brownlow-Dindy, Sr., under the direction of the Miller Family Funeral Home, Snyder, Texas.

Carl was born December 2, 1952 in Memphis, Texas to L.C. Devorce and Verna Mae (Scott) Devorce. He was the second oldest of 4 children.

Carl attended D.W. Wallace as a youth and graduated from Colorado City High School in 1971. He excelled in football and track and field. He was named All-State in both sports. He represented the Colorado City Wolves at the state track meet in Austin in 1970 and won the shot put event with a throw of 62’ 2”.

Carl went on to become an All-Conference nose guard at Oklahoma State University while attending on a football scholarship. He graduated OSU with a degree in Sociology, and minors in Psychology, Family Relations, and Child Development. He was drafted by the Houston Oilers but declined to play, opting instead to go into the oil field which was booming at that time.

Carl was employed as a mud engineer for Magcobar for 30 years. He went on to work for Anchor Drilling Fluids, which eventually lead to him being named as the manager of their West Mid-Continent District. He retired from Anchor in 2020. Additionally, his professional experience included co-ownership in a child development center for many years. He volunteered for the Elk City Chamber of Commerce for a time while he resided there, promoting projects for that city.

Carl married his childhood sweetheart Helen (Walthall) Devorce in 1972. From this marriage there are 4 children, Shenia Brownlow-Dindy (Terrance), Kristi Devorce, Carl Devorce, Jr. and Maya Devorce.

Carl was a strong man, who worked hard and encouraged his family to do the same. Carl never met a stranger, and had a great sense of humor. He loved being with family, fishing, doing yard work, watching OSU football and spoiling his 4 grandkids, Destyni, Terrance Jr., Gabriel and Kevontre.

Carl will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews, and a multitude of loving friends and extended family.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Floyda (Collins), Elroy Devorce, and Mary (Maxwell)
