Obituary for Bertha Gilbert

Bertha Gilbert, 104, was welcomed into the arms of her Heavenly Father, on Friday, July 23, 2021. Bertha was born January 28, 1917 in San Antonio, Texas to James and Lula (Whitt) Fowler. She was a long time resident of Scurry County, having moved here in a covered wagon at the age of seven.

Bertha leaves a legacy of faith, humbleness and determination. She loved and blessed everyone she knew and completely trusted in God, daily to meet her needs and to see her through the many struggles of life.

She was preceded in death by her Parents, James and Lula Fowler; five Brothers, Mitt, Floyd, Travis, Dick and Milam Fowler; two Husbands, Damon Williamson and Ordia Gilbert; Daughter, Helen Mellard and Son-in-law, Courtney Mellard.

She is survived by
4 Grandchildren, Mary Walker and husband Judson of Kress, TX, Molly Dabier and husband Kevin of Beorne, TX, Dana Sparks and husband Stanley of Fort Stockton, TX and Damon Mellard and wife Rachel of Marfa, TX;
16 Great-Grandchildren, Tizzy and James Walker, Chicora, Marissa, Cianna and Jeremiah Dabier, Sophia, Autumn, Stanley, Samuel and Isaac Sparks and Thomas, Aiden, Travis, Jacob and Dalleigh Mellard and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

Through her marriage to Ordia Gilbert, she was blessed with and is survived by 2 bonus sons, Jady Gilbert and wife Janell of Blackwell, TX and Franklin Gilbert of Denton, TX and 7 bonus Grandchildren, Jeff Gilbert, Jayna Hunter and husband Tommy, Jody Gilbert, J'Lynn and RC Bradley, Corey and Kinnaree Gilbert and Marcy and Randy Campos; 10 Great-Grandchildren.

Family Visitation is planned for Wednesday, July 28, 2021 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Miller Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Thursday, July 29th, 2021 at 10:00 am at Miller Family Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Ric Allen officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Miller Family Funeral Home at Hillside Memorial Gardens
