Obituary for Anne Ellen Henderson

Anne Ellen Henderson died peacefully with her sons by her side on August 29, 2020…. She was born Sept 2, 1946 in Pampa Texas, and was the third child of Elton and Cathryn Lathrop. Growing up, she tagged along with her older brother Jack and sister Lola, eventually graduating from Pampa High School. She started her career as a seamstress and shortly after became enamored by a blue-eyed cowboy and married Charlie Henderson on December 19, 1965. Together, they ventured out to grow a family and build a ranch. After several moves from Wheeler to Groesbeck, they decided to settle in Snyder. Anne became an LVN at Cogdell Hospital. Fearing they would never be able to have children of their own, they adopted James in 1971, and Tommy in 1976. The ultimate surprise came in 1983, when Will unexpectedly was born. After the boys were all in school, she also went back to school and became a registered nurse. Over the years she cared for many in Scurry, Mitchell, Fisher and Garza counties.
A lover of animals, she was especially smitten with her horses, and relished her barrel racing!!! She found pleasure spending hours working and training young horses,, always striving to develop the next winner. In fact, she consistently prevailed in the WTBRA, and NBHA. In 1993, she accomplished a major dream and won the pioneer barrel race at the Texas Cowboy Reunion in Stamford.
One of the toughest ladies on the planet, she was fiercely independent, and had a difficult time asking for help. She lived modestly, always sacrificing herself not just to her family but equally to her animal friends. She adored watching her grand kids grow.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elton and Cathryn, her siblings Jack and Lola and her husband of 25 years, Charlie. She is survived by her sons; James (Nicky), Tommy (Jennifer), Will (Dana), grandchildren (Hannah, Reagan, Jessica, Samantha, Sawyer and Kaylynn), sister in-law Kay Kerr. , nephew Lee Hughes and niece Kristy Petty.
